Women's Heroism in the Chanukah Story
Saturday, December 6, 2025 • 16 Kislev 5786
11:30 AM - 1:00 PMMillstone LibraryChanukah is a story of light and miracles—but it is equally defined by powerful narratives of female bravery. Rabbi Ken Tor will lead us in a dynamic exploration of the stories of Judith, Hannah (the Hasmonean Daughter), and Miriam/Hannah with her Seven Sons—women who stood at the crossroads of destiny and honor. We’ll uncover how these figures modeled different forms of heroism—from Kiddush Hashem (Sanctification of God’s Name) to resistance against forced assimilation—and how these ancient tales harnessed “Feminine Power” to change fate. Together, we’ll also look at the tradition of ‘Eid al-Banat’ (The Festival of Daughters) and ask: How do these stories shape the broader Jewish narrative, and what does true heroism mean for our identity today?
